A facelift, or rhytidectomy, defies aging by tightening facial muscles and supporting tissues under the skin, reducing and often eliminating lines and wrinkles that form naturally over time. As we age, the effects of gravity combined with our expressions of joy, sadness, and anger deepens previously temporary lines. Skin and deeper tissues sag in areas such as:

  • Sagging cheeks or jowls
  • Sagging neck skin folds
  • Deepened lines around the nose and mouth

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Granzow recommends that patients who want to rejuvenate their appearance consider a facelift for more lasting results.

A New Approach to Facelifts

A few decades ago, facelifts simply pulled skin tighter to smooth out lines and wrinkles. This approach resulted in overly stretched out skin for less expressive features and left patients with an overdone appearance.

Today, facelifts have progressed to balance natural-looking results with dramatic improvements that reduce signs of aging. Dr. Granzow’s approach to facelifts incorporates subtle surgical techniques based on extensive training and experience to delay the aging process and take years off your age while retaining the natural expressiveness and character of your face. Dr. Granzow will shape your natural structures to freshen and revitalize your appearance.

When to Get a Facelift

We start to develop signs of aging as early as our 20s. These signs initially go unnoticed, but start to show by our 30s and 40s. Whether your age shows at 35 or 55, certain factors speed up the process and make you look older. These are:

  • Smoking
  • Excessive alcohol
  • Sun damage
  • Genetics

Though some patients as young as their 40s elect to have facelifts, most patients are in their 50s, or even 60s before they consider facelifts to reduce lines and wrinkles.

Addressing Lines and Wrinkles Without Surgery

Although a facelift will help you achieve dramatic improvement, you may not need to undergo this procedure until later in life. In the meantime, Botox and injectable fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, and Voluma can treat lines, wrinkles, and volume loss.

At his office, Dr. Granzow recommends that younger patients consider non-surgical options for treatment such as Botox, which temporarily relaxes facial muscles and smoothes your skin and injectable fillers to restore lost volume to your face for a more youthful appearance.

What Can My Facelift Correct?

We all want to age gracefully and retain a flawless appearance as time goes on. Though a facelift cannot stop aging, it can set back the clock by:

  • Decreasing sagging in the middle of your face.
  • Reducing lines and wrinkles below lower eyelids and nasolabial fold (between nose and mouth).
  • Recontouring skin and loose muscles under the neck and chin.
  • Tightening soft tissues under the skin in the cheeks that cause jowls.

Dr. Granzow will bring out your face’s tone and structure for a defined look that highlights your cheekbones and facial contours.
